You know, they say that in life- there is one guarantee which is death. And then there is another classic quote- live your life to the fullest.
On personal basis, yes, i agree that we are all guaranteed to die and hence we should live our life to its utmost best. And if one fulfilled it, why then are there any emotional sadness surrounding him? Is it because we are very attached to the deceased or do we have any words left unsaid?
And we come to the topic of men and women. Yes, to this date, there is gender equality in the workforce and among diverse profession. We get to see house-husband instead of the usual house-wife. However, having said that, men are still picked out to join the military force instead of women. Although we might see a handful of women in the military camp, majority of them are men. In Singapore, for instance, it is compulsory for men aged between 18-22 to join the military force (or we call them as national service) for 2 years. If anyone escaped that, they would be exalted from Singapore and can never return home.
Although I have never joined the forces before and I doubt I ever will, the men's training are physically demanding. Waking up at 5 in the morning, doing morning runs (measured in kilometers), crunches and push ups. Only able to see their family and loved ones on weekends (and sometimes it is less than 48 hours). All these guys are forced to join the army, despite how strongly or weakly built they are and despite what family background they come from.
What i find really amazing is gender. Like above mentioned, if you are born as a boy in Singapore, you are already destined to sacrifice 2 years of your life to your country- (unless you migrate etc). I call this a sacrifice. Because as men are serving in the military camp for 2 years, only able to go home on weekends, women on the other hand have 2 years' head start- in career or in degree. Some guys sacrificed their lives while in the process of protecting their nation.
I have a new fond of respect for men.
